USAID all children succeeding activity - empowering media to spotlight inclusive education in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — USAID’s All Children Succeeding Activity (ACS) is hosting a two-day workshop in Tashkent on 20-21 August 2024.  The workshop, led by ACS and the Yuksalish Movement, will train 40 journalists and bloggers from Namangan, Syrdaryo, and Tashkent on how to cover inclusive education in the media.

The workshop aims to bolster media professionals’ understanding of inclusive education and skills reporting on the experiences of diverse people, focusing specifically on people with disabilities. By equipping participants with the necessary tools and knowledge, the workshop fosters comprehensive, ethical, and sensitive media coverage that can positively influence public perceptions of disability and inclusion to drive social change in Uzbekistan.

During the workshop, participants will explore critical themes including the principles of inclusive education, the impact of media in shaping public opinion, and effective storytelling techniques. The agenda features interactive sessions, practical exercises, and collaborative group projects, designed to produce actionable strategies for enhancing the discourse on inclusive education through various media platforms. Participants will leave with actionable plans to improve their media content on inclusive education and disability issues, fostering a more informed and inclusive public discourse.

The USAID All Children Succeeding Activity is a 5-year project of USAID focused on supporting inclusive education in primary grades in Uzbekistan. We are honored to work with the National Agency for Social Protections, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and the Ministry for Higher Education, Science and Innovation. Cooperation among government agencies is very important for inclusive education. All Children Succeeding offers support for three essential areas related to inclusive education: accessible and inclusive teaching and learning materials, teacher practice and school atmosphere, and sustainable policies developed together with key stakeholders, including educators and people with disabilities.

ACS is a partnership project. Creative Associates International is the lead implementing partner. Praxis Plus brings the voices and expertise of people with disabilities. Yuksalish supports information campaigns on disability and inclusive education as well as training for journalists reporting on education-related issues. American Councils provides expertise on assessment practices, and Syracuse University offers expertise in teacher preparation and professional development.
