US Embassy donates books on journalism

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 November, the US Ambassador George Krol joined deputies of the Legislative Chamber, members of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, heads of information services of a number of ministries, editors of leading central and regional mass media, representatives of NGOs, and foreign experts, at the International Media Forum “On enhancing the role and place of mass media in the system of civil society institutions,” held at the International Hotel in Tashkent.

Civic governance speaker, Lloyd Halverson of the City of Camas in Washington State, presented on the interaction of local governments with press.

In his remarks, Ambassador Krol stressed the need to develop a professional, responsible, independent media to ensure the health and vibrancy of public discourse on which real democracy is based and maintained.

At the request of the International Centre for the Training of Journalists, the US Embassy also provided some books on journalism for the Center’s reading room.

These books represent a broad cross-section of opinion; offer a great deal of practical knowledge, and a solid grounding on the principles of journalism.
