Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On Tuesday, the Third Committee of the 75th session of the General Assembly / GA / UN discussed human rights issues. Several countries such as the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom have maliciously discredited China and interfered in its internal affairs. Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN, strongly opposed and completely rejected the false accusations.

China’s position was supported by almost 70 states: Pakistan, on behalf of 55 countries, issued a statement in support of China on issues related to Xianggang, Cuba, on behalf of 45 countries, issued a statement in support of China on issues related to Xinjiang, Kuwait issued a statement in support of China on behalf of three Arab countries, many other countries have supported China in their statements. All sides supported the efforts of the PRC to protect national sovereignty, security and unity, commended China’s achievements in the development of human rights, opposed the politicization of human rights issues, double standards and political antagonism.

Zhang Jun noted that provoking confrontation by several states, such as the United States, is not up to date. At a time when the international community needs solidarity most, these countries provoke antagonism, create discord and seriously poison the atmosphere of cooperation.

Zhang Jun said that the interference of the respective states in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights issues is unpopular. Pakistan issued a joint statement on Hong Kong on behalf of 55 countries, Cuba issued a joint statement on Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on behalf of 45 countries, Kuwait issued a joint statement on behalf of three Arab countries, and many countries supported China separately.

Zhang Jun stressed that the clichés used by the respective countries are completely untrue. China’s human rights record has captured the world’s attention and cannot be denied through lies and deception. According to him, the inhabitants of the PRC are not afraid of wars and forced displacement. 1.4 billion people live peaceful, free and happy lives. This is the largest human rights project and best practice in the field of human rights, the diplomat said.

Zhang Jun stressed that political conspiracies of the respective countries will never be successful. Human rights are not a privilege of a minority, much less a political instrument, he noted, adding that human rights can be protected not only according to the Western model, countries have the right to choose methods that suit their national conditions.

The third committee of the UNGA discusses issues such as human rights and social development. In October 2019, the United States and several other countries also opposed China on human rights issues. That attempt met with strong opposition from most states and ended in failure.
