During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of the Uzbek-US agenda, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said. The sides noted that the countries have opportunities to continue development of constructive and mutual beneficial partnership and interested in deepening multilateral and reliable relations.

Melanne Verveer said that she is aware of the report of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis from 12 November 2010, which confirmed intention of Uzbekistan to continue reforms and democratization.

Melanne Verveer added that the goal of the visit is to familiarize with public-political changes in Uzbekistan, role of women in strengthening of basics of the civil society in Uzbekistan, as well as discuss and determine new ways of cooperation.

During the discussion of actual international and regional issues, Melanne Verveer noted positive experience of Uzbekistan in assisting to settlement of the Afghan problem.

The sides considered other cooperation issues, representing mutual interest.

It is expected that Melanne Verveer will also hold negotiations at the Office of Human Rights Commissioner of Oliy Majlis, Committee of Senate of Oliy Majlis on legislative and judicial-legal issues, Council of Professional Unions Federation and Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Uzbekistan George A. Krol participated at the talks.
