UNWTO Secretary General: "Uzbekistan’s experience to lead to the creation of a separate textbook for schools around the world"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili praised Uzbekistan’s initiative to start exploring tourism from childhood, noting that this initiative will contribute to the introduction of this direction as a separate subject in schools around the world and creating textbooks.

Mr. Pololikashvili said this at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov during his visit to Spain.

Aziz Abdukhakimov informed the UNWTO Secretary-General about the work done to date to form a culture of tourism among the population of Uzbekistan, especially among young people. “In order to awaken interest in this direction among the youth of Uzbekistan, a tourist map has been created for placement in secondary schools throughout the country.

At the same time, a guidebook "Young traveler" was developed for teaching the culture of travel from childhood. At the same time, the subject "Hour of Tourism" is being introduced into the school curriculum, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“Uzbekistan’s experience in introducing tourism from childhood and adolescence, as well as the corresponding development of tourism in cooperation with the UNWTO, can become an impetus for the creation of a subject and a textbook for primary schools around the world. I propose to test this direction as the first in Asia in the schools of Uzbekistan,” said Mr. Pololikashvili.
