UNDP Uzbekistan chief meets Director of Institute for Monitoring of Current Legislation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- To continue the constructive dialogue and cooperation between the UNDP and national institutions in Uzbekistan, Mr. Stefan Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan met Mr. Farrukh Mukhamedov, Director of the Institute for Monitoring of Current Legislation under the President of Uzbekistan (hereinafter Institute). Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the prospects for future partnership.

In line with the Concept of the President of Uzbekistan on further deepening the democratic reforms and establishing the civil society UNDP shows strong commitment to provide support by leveraging the collective knowledge of the organisation in a cost-effective manner. It aims at accelerating reforms on the system of checks and balances, decentralization and the citizen-centric public service delivery at the local level, transparency and accountability for the government agencies.

Furthermore, enhancement of the national legislation through democratic governance initiatives outlined in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework in the Republic of Uzbekistan is very critical part of UNDP mandate. Therefore, UNDP is willing to partner with the Institute on formulation of long term strategic documents related to the governance area.

Parties also agreed to deepen coordination and assistance in capacity building of the Institute and review international experience in order to improve, harmonize and advance the national legislation in the field of public administration, rule of law, systemic monitoring and expertise of laws in compliance with international legal norms and principles.

Noteworthy, capacity development initiatives will also cover joint developing and disseminating Ex-Ante Regulatory Impact Assessment methodologies to develop capacity of state agencies for adopting normative-legal acts in a high quality.
