After the signing ceremony, Mr. Priesner emphasized the important role of the Institute in the democratization of the country and formation of civil society, improvement of the national legislation and implementation of the Concept of furthering the democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country.
The Memorandum signed between the parties is intended to strengthen the cooperation between the parties and assist the Institute in carrying out comprehensive analytical research on the issues of enhancing the efficiency of public administration, improving the quality of laws as well as the effectiveness and transparency of government agencies. These aims will be achieved through the joint preparation of research and analytical materials with the involvement of leading national and international experts and supporting the MPs’ of the Chambers of Parliament in exercising their law-making, representative and parliamentary oversight functions.
The parties are expected to jointly organize problem-focused discussions, conferences, symposiums on various areas of mutual interest as well as trainings for the Institute’s staff and other stakeholders representing the government agencies.
Furthermore, UNDP will support the Institute’s policy analysis capacity through the joint development, dissemination and practical implementation of various methodologies (Ex- Ante Regulatory Impact Assessment, anti-corruption expertise, systemic monitoring of the national legislation for compliance with the international laws, etc.).
The ceremony was attended by the members of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, the officials from the Ministry of Justice and other line ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan as well as the representatives of UNDP in Uzbekistan and mass media.
