UN to assist uzbekistan in developing updated national climate plans

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a memorandum of cooperation under the project "Supporting Uzbekistan in the Development of NDC 3.0." The document was signed in Baku during the COP29 climate conference.

The project, funded by UNDP with a budget of US$250,000 for the period of one year (December 2024 – December 2025), aims to support Uzbekistan in preparing updated nationally determined contributions (NDC 3.0) under the Paris Agreement. It also focuses on integrating biodiversity and social inclusion aspects into the country’s climate policy.

The project plans to strengthen the capacity of government officials, promote the exchange of experiences in circular economy and climate policy, and improve inter-agency coordination to address interconnected issues in agriculture, water use, and energy, with a focus on gender equality.

Together with the ministries of ecology and economy, UNDP is developing a roadmap to address identified gaps and ensure the integration of social and gender aspects into national climate change mitigation and adaptation plans. This work also includes issues related to a just energy transition and the interconnection of climate and biodiversity goals.
