Uzbekistan 14/08/2009 UN Secretary General congratulates Uzbek people
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon congratulated Uzbek President and his people with 18th anniversary of country’s independence and 2,200th anniversary of Tashkent.

Ban Ki-moon wished success in holding different events, and also confirmed readiness to develop cooperation for well-being of Uzbek people and in the name of peace, stability, and prosperity in Central Asia in his message to Islam Karimov.

UN Secretary General noted commitment and efforts of Uzbekistan in strengthening regional and global peace and security, in particular, coming into effort of the agreement on creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia on 21 March.

"Uzbekistan provides important assistance to international efforts on stabilization and economic restoration of Afghanistan, and Your support of UN role in this regard is highly valued.

New power transmission line from Uzbekistan which started to supply electricity to Kabul in April 2009 well illustrates continuing help of potential contribution of Uzbekistan to economic restoration of Afghanistan."

Regional approach proposed by Uzbek President once again confirms the necessity of active participation of countries neighboring with Afghanistan in promotion of stable peace, UN Secretary General underlined.

"Your beautiful capital Tashkent plays an important role in promotion of initiatives on providing stability, security, and stable development as in Uzbekistan, so in the region," Ban Ki-moon added.
