Uzbekistan 16/08/2007 UN Office in Uzbekistan releases MDG Breifing Kit for students
The United Nations Office in Uzbeistan published the "MDG Youth Breifing Kit: a practical guide for students" on occasion of International Youth Day-celerated wordwide on 12 August 2. This publication targeting the young people in Uzbekistan was released in the wake of International Youth Day to commemorate and empasize the youth participation at global and country level. This year International Youth Day will be celebrated around the world under teh slogan "Be seen, be heard: youth participation for development". UN Office in Uzbekstan marks this event with release of new publication to mobilize active participation of youth in development issues.

The Youth Briefing Kit was prepared by the United Nations Office in Uzbekistan to expand youth involvement and youth initiatives in Uzbekistan in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. It is primarily aimed at young people between the ages of 18-25. The publication and printing of the MDG Youth Briefing Kit was made possible with the support of the UN agencies in Uzbekistan.


The MDG Youth Briefing Kit is divided into two parts: Global MDGs and National MDGs.
On a global part, you will find interesting facts relevant to the MDGs; learn how UN agencies in the world are advocating towards the MDGs; find out about youth participation and youth-led-development mini projects, and other useful information. .

On a national part, you can get acquainted with the situation related to Uzbekistan; answer questions and challenge your understanding of the national MDGs; mobilize your peers to undertake concrete initiatives to realize MDGs at local levels; and other interesting facts that are useful in everyday life.

MDG Youth Briefing Kit:
- Helps young people to find a practical information on the MDGs;
- Provides background information to raise-awareness on the MDGs;
- Mobilizes for peer-to peer events, mini- projects and community mobilization events;
- Informational tool to write briefing notes and youth articles for media;
- Facilitates to develop policies, guidelines, procedures, and training materials on issues related to the MDGs.

Today’s youth comprise 18 percent of the world population and plays a vital role in building partnership with policy makers, government and civil society. Moreover, young people are effective leaders of social and environmental enterprises and can help to fight against manmade ecological hazards. They understand that after 10-20 years, their own children will breathe air full of toxins, if appropriate actions are not taken now. Furthermore, young people are a powerful resource who can deliver innovative shared ideas for accelerating development within country boundaries. The International Youth Day, August 12, was adopted by the United Nations resolution 54/120 to emphasize the importance of youth participation to accelerate development processes.

As you read this MDG Youth Briefing Kit, you should keep in mind the multiplicity of linkages among all aspects of the development processes. You will also learn what of kind of activities UN agencies are implementing with young people residing in Uzbekistan. Moreover, the MDG Youth Briefing Kit contains information on the Millennium Declaration and why MDGs came about. It will also be useful for you to refer to the MDG Glossary which explains terms and definitions used throughout this Briefing Kit. At the end, you will be introduced to useful links and the list of international youth organization, which support youth and their efforts in promoting for MDGs.
