UN Assistant Secretary-General holds talks in Uzbekistan

UzA reported that Ivan Simonovic held the meeting with the Prosecutor-General of Uzbekistan Rashid Kadirov.

During the meeting, the sides considered reforms in judicial-legal sphere, in particular, abolishment of death penalty, introduction of habeas corpus, etc. The sides also discussed issues of protection of human rights and interests.

The UN delegation also met with the director of National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov. It was noted that Uzbekistan considered protection of human rights as a priority of the government.

It was underlined that Uzbekistan is member of the UN mechanisms on human protection and implements its international liabilities. The Government of Uzbekistan supports national human rights institutes as Ombudsperson, National Center for Human Rights, etc.

Ivan Simonovic said that the UN delegation held negotiations with various ministries and departments of Uzbekistan. He said that intention to develop bilateral cooperation will serve for further development of interaction.

The UN delegation also held negotiations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ombudsperson and Constitution Court of Uzbekistan.
