Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Twelve students from a specialized school in the city of Almalyk, Tashkent Region, have been hospitalized in the infectious diseases department with suspected acute intestinal disease, according to the press service of Uzbekistan’s children’s ombudsman.
The data indicates that the students, admitted to the hospital between September 15 and 19, had consumed unfiltered water on the school premises.
Currently, seven students have been discharged from the hospital and are continuing treatment at home.
The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee of Tashkent Region has taken water and food samples for analysis to determine the cause of the illness.
A working group from the regional department of preschool and school education is investigating the incident, while the Almalyk District Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a preliminary inquiry.
