TV urges Uzbek labour migrants to leave country legally
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A film aired on Uzbek TV on 3 December, urged citizens who want to work abroad to do it legally by applying to relevant agencies.

"Citizens, who are going abroad should keep in their minds that the country will protect its citizens’ interests no matter where they are, if citizens leave the country legally," it said.

The film said that people should apply to the regional bureaux of the Uzbek agency for labour migration in order to work abroad officially.

"Regional bureaux were set up in the city of Tashkent and in the towns of Bukhoro, Nukus, Ferghana and Karshi with the aim of creating favourable conditions for citizens, who want to work in foreign countries," the film said.

It also said that in 2008, the Uzbek agency for labour migration sent over 3,500 Uzbek citizens to South Korea for work.

The film featured interviews with relatives of several Uzbek citizens who died in foreign countries after illegally leaving Uzbekistan to find jobs abroad. In the interviews, elderly people advised young people to try to find employment in their home country.

The film also showed interviews with several men who said they had applied to the state agency for labour migration in order to find jobs abroad and as a result, enjoyed favourable working conditions while working in foreign countries.
