Turkmen President Meets Uzbek Prime Minister in Ashgabat
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting on 22 May with Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
During the meeting, Abdulla Aripov expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for its hospitality and conveyed greetings and best wishes from President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the President of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen people.
President Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted the importance of the Uzbek delegation’s participation in the CIS government leaders’ meeting and emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation within the Commonwealth.
Both sides highlighted that relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are long-term, friendly, and strategic in nature. It was noted that the two countries successfully cooperate both bilaterally and within international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, OSCE, ECO, and CIS.
Special attention was given to trade and economic cooperation, with transport and logistics identified as key areas for future collaboration.
Cultural and humanitarian ties were also discussed. In this context, both sides highlighted the significance of international equestrian competitions and the “Pearl of the East” beauty contest held in Uzbekistan, which promote the cultural heritage and popularity of Akhal-Teke horses.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing confidence in further strengthening Turkmen-Uzbek relations based on long-standing traditions of good neighborliness and mutual respect.
