Turkish Airlines to buy 200 wide-body and 400 narrow-body aircrafts in June

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of a recently adopted strategy to expand the fleet to more than 800 aircraft by 2033, Turkish Airlines plans to announce a huge order for the purchase of 600 aircrafts in June. It is reported by Business Aviation Portal.

According to Ahmet Bolat, chairman of the board and executive committee of the Turkish national carrier, the airline is in talks "with aircraft and engine manufacturers to purchase around 200 wide-body and 400 narrow-body aircrafts (including options)". It is assumed that the deal with the American Boeing may be announced during the annual general meeting of the International Air Transport Association IATA, which will be held in Istanbul on 4-6 June.

The contract announcement with the European Airbus is likely to take place at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget at the end of June.

The airline currently operates 414 aircraft and plans to increase the fleet to 435 aircraft by the end of the year. In addition, the carrier has orders and options for 82 aircraft (14 Boeing and 68 Airbus) to be delivered by 2028.

The new contracts will allow not only updating and expanding the fleet of the flagship full-service airline Turkish Airlines and the budget division of AnadoluJet, but also expanding the route network.

Due to the receipt of new aircraft, by 2033 the company's fleet will consist of 75% of the latest generation aircraft (now 28%). By this time, discounter AnadoluJet will operate a quarter of the group's total fleet.

According to the new strategy for the next ten years, Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines aims to double its fleet to 800 aircraft and transport 170 million passengers annually. by 2033, its centenary.
