The training will be held in the Crafts Development Center of the Karakalpakstan Regional Branch of the Uzbekistan Academy of Arts and conducted within the framework of the UN Joint Program "Building the Resilience of Communities Affected by the Aral Sea Disaster through a Multi-partner Human Security Fund for the Aral Sea".
The training aims at raising awareness of around 25 craftspeople and designers about the traditional culture of Karakalpakstan, improving their capacity in applying traditional craft techniques in modern design (ornamentation, color, natural dyeing, natural materials, traditional ornament in the context of modern clothing and quality requirements).
Another focus of the training is to improve the quality of handicraft products in order to meet the reality of modern handicraft market. International expert on traditional textiles, UNESCO’s Artist for Peace, designer Ms. Bibi Russell (UK/Bangladesh) will participate in the training.
