Tourist zone “Samarkand City” to be created in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan issued a resolution “On measures for accelerated development of the tourist potential of Samarkand city and Samarkand region for 2017 – 2019” on 30 June 2017.

The resolution approved a programme of measures for accelerated development of the tourist potential of Samarkand city and Samarkand region for 2017 - 2019.

Within the framework of the programme, it is planned to construct new hotels (for 30, 40, 60, 200 places) and tourist infrastructure objects.

The measures will be adopted to create conditions for evening leisure of tourists, including regular cultural events.

In accordance with the programme, it is planned to modernize transport service system, including development of air and railway infrastructure.

The document notes that it is planned to create new tourist routes and develop new types of tourism (ecological, scientific, extreme, gastronomic, etc.).

It is expected that 39.34 billion soums will be allocated for financing the programme. Implementation of the programme should ensure growth of exports of tourism services by 2.2 times, and the number of foreign tourists - by 2 times during the period 2017-2021.

The Government of Uzbekistan also approved a proposal to establish a tourist zone “Samarkand City” in the city of Samarkand.

It is planned to construct hotels, cottages, cultural and recreational and shopping and entertainment facilities in the territory of Samarkand City. National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity will finance the project.

In the territory of the rowing channel in Samarkand district, it is planned to organize sports and recreation and tourist-recreational zone. The zone will include gyms, sports grounds, swimming pools, which will conduct year-round training camps.

The zone will include hotel complexes of family type and cottage community, other recreational infrastructure facilities, including water attractions, for organizing family holidays for locals and arriving tourists and tourists from the region. Uzpromstroybank will finance the project.

Entrepreneurs, operating in the territory of the Samarkand City tourist zone and the sports and recreation and tourist-recreational zone on the territory of the rowing canal, as well as investment companies, are exempted from payment of certain taxes and official payments till 1 January 2020.

They also received customs privileges for imported equipment, raw materials, components, construction materials and other materials, which are not produced in the country.
