Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan is ready to do its best to support joint Uzbek-Russian projects to develop the tourism industry. This was stated by the first deputy chairman of the committee, Jamshid Abdusalomov.

“Russia and Uzbekistan have huge untapped potential in the field of tourism, and we need to cooperate more actively and on a larger scale. The Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan is ready to support the tourism business of our countries in the implementation of joint projects,” Abdusalomov said at the “Travel” tourism forum held in Moscow.

As reported by TASS, he noted that in Uzbekistan tourism is identified as a driver of the economy, and at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, unprecedented measures have been taken in recent years to develop this area.

According to Sputnik, in 2023, 714 thousand tourists arrived from Russia to Uzbekistan, which is 1.5 times more than the number of tourists arriving from non-CIS countries.

In the first four months of 2024, air carriers in Russia and Uzbekistan transported 660 thousand passengers. The average number of flights between the two countries is 309 per week, of which 155 are operated by Russian air carriers and 154 by Uzbek carriers.
