Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Manchester City fans are praising Uzbek defender Abdulkodir Khusanov following the team's victory over Newcastle.
While the attacking line, led by Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush, tore through the opponent's defense, the defenders executed their duties with confidence.
One of the standout players was Khusanov, who played the full match, showcasing impressive statistics: 94% passing accuracy, three passes into the final third, 100% of aerial duels won, eight defensive actions, and not a single lost dribble.
In contrast to the nervy moments in the matches against Chelsea and Leyton Orient, Khusanov looked much more assured in this game. And while the fans’ attention might have been focused on the attack, it was Khusanov who became the subject of their enthusiastic praise.
"We have two generals in defense. Khusanov and Stones – that's madness!" – wrote one fan on social media platform X.
Another fan compared him to the club's legendary captain: "Khusanov will become our Vincent Kompany."
"His debut match clearly made him nervous, but today he looked much more confident," noted another supporter.
The compliments kept coming. "Strong in duels, calm one-on-one, excellent cover for Rico, and confident with the ball."
"Khusanov is my type of defender: tough, fast, no unnecessary flair, with a clear understanding of his role and capabilities," added another fan.
Pep Guardiola is known for his significant spending on defenders, but judging by Khusanov’s performance against Alexander Isak and company, the Spanish coach may not need to search for a new defensive talent.
