Top seeded Yen- Hsun Lu will take on old warhorse Kristian Pless of Denmark in an interesting first round encounter, while second seed Dudi Sela will take on a qualifier in the opening round of the US$125,000 Tashkent Challenger, a ATP Challenger series event.
Uzbekistan star Denis Istomin has been ranked sixth and will also face a qualifier in the first round. Istomin is in the third quarter with two other Uzbek wild cards Vaja Uzakov, and Inoyatov Murad. Murad has been drawn to take on third seeded Denis Gremelmayr.
Forth seeded Michael Berrer will take on Laurent Recouderc of France in the first round, while fifth seeded Bjorn Phau has been drawn to play Marsel Ilhan of Turkey.
Uzbek wildcard Farrukh Dustov will take on seventh seeded Flavio Cipolla, while in an all Asian first round eighth seed Go Soeda of Japan will take on Woong-Sun Jun of Korea.
The draw ceremony was conducted by the ATP Supervisor Mr. Carl Baldwin and the tournament director S. Uthrapathy at a simple ceremony held on 11 October. The vice minister of Sports and Culture Kutibaev Erkin and the vice Mayor of Tashkent Bakhtiyorov Nizamiddin and Mr Andrey Kornilov from the UTF were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kutibaev Erkin said that the government of Uzbekistan under the personal guidance of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, was making all out efforts to promote and develop sports all over the country. Speaking to the media later the tournament director S. Uthrapathy said that the organizers planned to make the Tashkent challenger an annual event.
