Culture 21/02/2008 Third forum of CIS intelligentsia due in Dushanbe in September
"A working meeting with Viktor Sadovnichy, the rector of Moscow State University and the forum’s co-chairman, was held today," Shvydkoi said. "We have discussed preparation for the upcoming meeting of the intelligentsia and arrived at the conclusion that we are to address one of the essential matters - national languages and national literature of the Commonwealth countries," he said.

"The problem of translation presents itself not only in business correspondence but also in belles letters," Shvydkoi said. "We are aware that there is a seminar for translators at the Institute of Literature, and there exists the journal "Friendship of Peoples", that specialists are educated, but still there is shortage of translators from the languages of the Commonwealth countries," he said.

"Tajikistan is the land of poets and also of mathematicians and astronomers," Shvydkoi said. "Meetings of young scientists working in exact and natural sciences will be held at the forum."

Besides, practical matters of organizing education in the post-Soviet space will be discussed, Shvydkoi stated. Setting up branches at major Russian higher educational establishments can help improve education, he believes.

"For instance, Moscow State University has branches in Uzbekistan with some 500 students and in Kazakhstan where over 1,000 students study, also in Ukraine and in Azerbaijan," Shvydkoi said.

"Thanks to this, hundreds of young people have an opportunity to study under the programmes of the best Russian institutions of higher learning," he said.

The third forum of the creative and scientific intelligentsia of the CIS countries will be held in Tajikistan in the days of celebration of the 1150th birth anniversary of Rudagi, the founder of Tajik and Persian classical literature.
