The World Council of Craftsmen is considering the possibility of granting Bukhara the status of a world city of artisans

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by the deputy chairman of the Hunarmand Association, Aziz Murtazaev, took part in the forum of world artisan cities, Dunyo reports.

The event, which was held in the administrative center of the state of Sarawak - the city of Kuching, was made by the World Council of Craftsmen of the Asia-Pacific Region (WCC-APR) and the administration of this Malaysian state.

The World Council of Artisans of the Asia-Pacific Region is the largest regional branch of the World Council of Artisans, which operates under the auspices of UNESCO. It includes more than 45 countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

As part of the forum, the World Biennale in the field of eco-fiber and textiles, as well as an exhibition and fashion show on the theme “Clothing and Cultural Identity” were held.

Biennale participants were introduced to the technique and centuries-old traditions of weaving ikat, khan-atlas and adras. It is emphasized that the Uzbek ikat is one of the most environmentally friendly textile products, as it is made exclusively by hand using organic dyes.

Within the framework of the events, the representatives of the Hunarmand Association held a number of fruitful meetings with the Presidents of the World Council of Artisans Rosie Greenlis and the World Craft Council for the Asia-Pacific Region Gada Kaddumi, as well as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Art of the State of Sarawak, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamza.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the establishment of bilateral cooperation of Uzbek hunarmandas with Malaysian artisans in the field of exchange of experience, as well as the organization of their exhibitions abroad and Uzbekistan.

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the beginning of joint work to provide the city of Bukhara with the status of a world artisan city.
