The Uzbek delegation is taking part in the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 29 June to 3 July, the 32nd Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe (OSCE) is being held in Porto, Portugal. More than 200 parliamentarians from Europe, North America and Central Asia are attending this high‑level forum.

Uzbekistan’s delegation is led by Sodik Safoyev, First Deputy Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. During the session, the Uzbek delegation has taken part in the Opening Ceremony, plenary meetings, committee sessions and a number of bilateral discussions.

At the Opening Ceremony, OSCE PA President Pia Kauma warmly praised Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms, its proactive foreign‑policy stance and the positive momentum in the country’s democratic development. She noted that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights had given a favorable assessment of Uzbekistan’s recent parliamentary elections, finding them to meet international standards.

During the session, the Uzbek delegation held a meeting with Roberto Montella, Secretary General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in which both sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Assembly.

The delegation also participated in a consultative meeting with Farim Karimi, the OSCE PA’s Special Representative for Central Asia, together with parliamentary delegations from the region. The discussion focused on establishing a Central Asian parliamentary group within the Assembly and on measures to strengthen inter‑parliamentary cooperation across the region.

In addition, Uzbekistan’s representatives joined a meeting of the Silk Road Group, where they explored ways to expand regional collaboration. The Uzbek delegation proposed that an academic conference, under the Silk Road Group’s auspices, be hosted in Uzbekistan. The participants agreed to work jointly on the practical arrangements for this initiative.

Uzbekistan’s delegation will continue its active engagement in the session through to its conclusion on 3 July.
