The United States Imposes a 25% Tariff on All Imports from Kazakhstan Starting from 1 August

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 July 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump sent an official letter to Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, notifying him of the introduction of a 25-percent tariff on all Kazakh goods imported into the United States, effective August 1 of the current year. This information was reported by Tengrinews.kz, citing Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social.

The letter, published by the White House head, states that the 25% tariff will apply to all Kazakh products regardless of any existing sectoral or industry-specific tariffs.

“It is my great honor to send you this letter as it demonstrates the strength of our trade relations and the fact that the United States remains open to cooperation with Kazakhstan despite the significant trade deficit with your great country,” the message reads.

The U.S. President noted that over the years the parties had the opportunity to discuss existing trade issues; however, Washington now deems it necessary to take measures to address persistent trade imbalances.

Trump emphasized that the tariff will not apply to companies producing goods directly on U.S. soil. Furthermore, he stated that if Kazakhstan imposes retaliatory tariffs, their levels will be added to the already established 25% rate.

“Please understand that these measures are necessary to eliminate existing trade barriers. The trade imbalance poses a serious threat not only to our economy but also to our national security,” the American leader stressed.
