Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Tourism Committee, together with the UN Tourism Secretariat, worked out the issue of including in the agenda of the 121st session of the UN Tourism Executive Council in Barcelona the initiative of the Republic of Uzbekistan to create an Intergovernmental Commission to develop a Global Code for Safe Tourism.

The initiative to develop and adopt a Global Code of Safe Tourism was announced by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in October 2023 at the 25th session of the UN General Assembly Tourism in Samarkand.

Based on the results of consideration of this issue, all 35 members of the UN Tourism Executive Council unanimously approved the proposal of the Uzbek side to create an Intergovernmental Commission and expressed their readiness to co-author the Global Code of Safe Tourism.

It is expected that the Code will become one of the main tools for ensuring guaranteed safety of tourists, strengthen the legal framework for international travel and unite the efforts of UN member states in this direction.

Remind you that earlier on February 26 of this year. At the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, the UN General Assembly unanimously approved the resolution “2027 as the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.”
