Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An exhibition dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Kudryashov was opened in Moscow on 17 May. The gallery has opened to the public a retrospective collection of more than 300 exhibits. The for Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan assisted in the holding of the exhibition and the provision of objects from the State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan.

Today, the master’s creative heritage is unevenly distributed among the museums of four countries: Russia, Uzbekistan, Greece and France. Collections: State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Vyatka Art Museum named after V.M. I am. Vasnetsovs, Museum of Contemporary Art - Kostaki Collection (Thessaloniki, Greece), National Museum of Modern Art / Industrial Design Center - Center Pompidou (Paris), Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan named after I.V. Savitsky (Nukus, Republic of Uzbekistan), as well as a private collection. Thanks to the works of Igor Savitsky, artist, art critic, creator and first director of the Museum of Arts in Nukus, the most significant collection of Kudryashov’s works is concentrated there, revealing the artist’s career.

Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, spoke at the opening of the exhibition:

This event is important not only for Russia and Uzbekistan, it is important for the entire world art. The most important achievement of the exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery is the display in the exposition of a significant body of the artist’s works from the collection of this museum.

Zelfira Tregulova, General Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery, also made a speech:

The exhibition consists of several sections, including paintings, graphics, scenographic works of the artist, as well as archival materials. In one of the halls, a three-dimensional model-reconstruction of Kudryashov’s Suprematist painting for the Orenburg City Theater, renamed in October 1920 into the 1st Soviet Theater, is presented.

The importance of the event for strengthening further international cooperation and Uzbek-Russian relations, in particular, was noted by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov:

An illustrated edition has been prepared for the opening of the exhibition - the first monographic study of Kudryashov’s work, in which more than 150 works from the collections of Russia, Uzbekistan, Greece and France have been published. In a separate book, for the first time, the reconstruction of the project of the Suprematist painting for the theater in Orenburg is presented.

Olga Yarilova, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, highlighted the variety of the exhibition and the painstaking work of the curators:

“This exhibition is a very significant event both for us and for Uzbekistan. We are convinced that it will probably be one of the brightest events in the calendar of our creative projects between Russia and Uzbekistan. Usually such exhibitions evoke associations that it should be something boring enough monotonous, but when you get into the hall, you will be surprised by the architecture created by architects, which created an amazing frame for Kudryashov’s works. Saida Mirziyoyeva, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, noted that the artist’s works remained unnoticed for a long time and expressed interest in continuing to study the collections of the Nukus Art Museum:

In 2019, art critics from the Tretyakov Gallery Irina Pronina and Igor Smekalov received a grant from the private foundation of Iveta and Tamaz Manasherovs to study the collection of Ivan Kudryashov’s works in Nukus. The analysis of the Nukus collection of Ivan Kudryashov (about 350 museum items), done by Pronina and Smekalov, became the scientific basis of this exhibition. The Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan has had a significant impact and help in research:

“The potential of the Nukus collection allows us to say that this exhibition is only the first step in the true disclosure of the collection of the museum of painting and graphics of Russia of the 20th century and cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. We are aware of the interest of Russian researchers in this topic.
