The Scientific and Technical Council of the EEC was created for the development of the EAEU

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 10 September 2020, the first meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council under the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission took place.

The Scientific and Technical Council was created in order to discuss effective models and forms of integration of the EAEU Member States, to provide a scientific approach to studying the issues of the Union’s development, to improve the EEC’s activities related to scientific research and design work. The presidium of the council included ministers of the EEC, heads of state bodies of the Union countries in the field of science and higher education, and heads of national academies of sciences.

According to the approved work plan, the Scientific and Technical Council forms the strategic directions of scientific and technological progress, determines the priorities and develops programs for innovative projects to ensure the modernization and increase the efficiency of the economy of the entire Union.

The main topic of discussion at the meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council was the issue of scientific support for strategic directions for the development of Eurasian integration and the prospects for the implementation of interstate programs and innovative projects.

The meeting participants discussed the following areas of cooperation in the field of science and technology in the EAEU countries:

1) implementation of joint interstate programs within the Union and building a system of effective management and financing of joint projects in the field of science and technology;

2) the formation and development of a single scientific space of the Union;

3) the formation in the EAEU of interstate chains “science - production”, as well as the expansion of commercially oriented interaction between science and business within the EAEU.

In general, according to experts, the Scientific and Technical Council was created as an open discussion and consultative platform for discussing topical issues of integration and further development of the EAEU. Analysts believe that the Union’s success is problematic without an emphasis on science. The achievements of science and the demands of the economic sector should be linked in a single chain. The created Scientific and Technical Council of the EEC will contribute to this.
