The International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry started in Bukhara

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21-25 May 2022, the International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry Business will be held in the city of Bukhara. 

The purpose of this event is a broader presentation of the multifaceted Uzbek national handicrafts, promotion of its unique samples, the establishment of an exchange of experience between peoples in this direction, and the further development of ties of friendship and cooperation.

It is no coincidence that this international event is held in Bukhara. So, since ancient times this city has been one of the cultural centers with developed handicrafts. Here, handicrafts and various areas of folk applied arts were mainly developed, especially gold embroidery and jewelry were developed at a high level.

Through the "master-apprentice" tradition, family dynasties of artisans pass on the "secrets" of craftsmanship from generation to generation. At present, handicraft traditions are consistently developing in the city of Bukhara. In particular, many types of handicrafts flourish, such as silk carpet weaving, pottery, chasing, gold embroidery, jewelry, embroidery, wood carving.

It is noteworthy that this year the World Council of Artisans awarded the city of Bukhara the status of the City of Handicrafts.

The festival will be attended by 288 artisans from all regions of our republic, including 110 jewelers, 37 masters of gold embroidery, 44 embroiderers, 97 craftsmen operating in various areas of handicraft.

221 foreign participants will take part from 58 countries of the world, including 112 artisans. It is expected that 9 guests of honor, 4 high-ranking foreign statesmen will also take part in the festival.

33 foreign scientists from 22 states and 20 Uzbek scientists are planned to participate in the scientific and practical conference held within the framework of the festival on the topic “Prospects for the development of traditional gold embroidery and jewelry art”.

The festival events will be widely covered by more than 200 representatives of local and foreign media, including 14 foreign journalists accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and permanently operating in Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of the festival, a number of events will take place, including solemn processions of the festival participants, an exhibition and sale of products of local and foreign artisans, press conferences on the holding and results of the festival, the Bukhara Fashion days fashion week, folk festivals, performances of puppeteers and tightrope walkers, concert programs of regional folklore groups and cultural departments, pilaf competitions, master classes by local and foreign artisans, presentation of the books “Jewelry and gold embroidery art of Uzbekistan” and “Gold embroidery art”, excursions to famous gold embroidery and jewelry workshops of Bukhara will be presented.

The World Council of Craftsmen will present ancient Bukhara with a certificate on awarding the city the status of the World City of Craftsmen. The Hunarmand Association has become a member of this organization since March 2019.

The title of the World City of Craftsmen was established in 2014 and so far 30 cities around the world have been awarded it.

In accordance with the regulations on the International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry, a review competition will be organized among local and foreign artisans within the framework of the festival.

The skill of the participants of the competition will be evaluated by an international jury of seven people. The international jury includes highly qualified specialists, well-known figures of art and culture, scientists, researchers, practitioners, as well as representatives of relevant industries from the participating States.

The international jury will evaluate the exhibition of products of the participants of the review competition and master classes in the following 12 nominations:

"The best Jewelry Organization" (Prize –US$5,000),

"The best gold embroidery organization" (US$5,000),

"The best gold embroiderer" (US$5,000),

"The best Jeweler" (US$5,000),

“The best master of the gold embroidery school” (US$3,000),

"The best master of the jewelry school" (US$3,000),

"The successor of the dynasty in gold embroidery" (US$3,000).

"The successor of the dynasty in jewelry and gold embroidery"

"The successor of the ancient dynasty in jewelry" (US$3,000),

"Master of gold embroidery, who revived ancient traditions" (US$3,000),

"Master Jeweler Reviving Ancient Traditions" (US$3,000)

"The youngest gifted master of gold embroidery" (US$3,000),

"The Youngest Gifted Jeweler" (US$3,000).

The winners in the nominations will be awarded with a special diploma and cash prizes.

As a result of the festival, the Ark Fortress will host a solemn award ceremony and a gala concert with the participation of the winners and prize-winners of the International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry.
