The festival “99 types of island fish dishes” was held in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Today, a number of tourism areas are rapidly developing in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Ancient fortresses located in the southern regions of Karakalpakstan, and the world-famous State Art Museum named after I.V. Savitsky in Nukus - historical and cultural tourism, the Aral Sea and the Ustyurt Plateau - ecotourism, Chimbaya artisans, clearly demonstrating local culture and traditions - ethnotourism - everything these are the main directions. Among these tourist destinations, gastronomic tourism is of great importance, and the traditional cuisine of the Karakalpak people is distinguished by its own characteristics.

Just as each region of the Republic of Uzbekistan has its own dishes, so Karakalpakstan has its own dishes, such as “Bes Barmak”, “Zhugeri Gurtik”, “Aksaulak”, “Turama”, “Maek Borek” and “Balyk Karma” prepared from fish, “Eel cutlets” and “Fish broth” will delight every visitor with their taste.

In order to widely promote the gastronomic tourism potential of Karakalpakstan, on the initiative of the Tourism Committee, the international gastronomic festival “99 types of island fish dishes” has been held since 2017. This event not only promotes National Fish Dishes but also attracts local and foreign tourists to other tourist destinations in the region.

The large-scale festival first started in a unique dead tourist place in Karakalpakstan - in the Muynak region, and was later held in the capital, the city of Nukus. This year’s festival, which is being held for the fifth time, was held on 29-30 September in Takhtakupir district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan
