This year Uzbek moviegoer will have a chance to watch 13 feature, documentary and animation films produced by 11 European states. The embassies and cultural organisations of the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Latvia and Switzerland provided their films for the Festival. A number of movies are the winners of prestigious national and international film awards.

All fans of cinema are invited to attend free screenings of the above-mentioned films at the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace from 22 to 28 May. The films will be screened on their original languages with Russian subtitles.

The Festival will be opened by "The King’s speech", a famous British film of 2010 that is based on real historical events. It will be screened following the opening ceremony of the Film Festival on May 22 at 19.00.

"Tashkent has been hosting the Film Festival since 2013, and has already become a long-expected event of the cultural live of the capital regularly held during the Days of Europe in Uzbekistan. For example, last year it was attended by over 5 000 moviegoers, who watched 17 films from 12 different European countries. We hope that this year more people will be able to attend the screenings and value quality of the European films", said Mr. Musayev.

"The European Film Festival is one of the most famous and largest cultural projects of the EU Delegation annually organised in cooperation with Uzbekkino. We are glad that this project gives Uzbek audience a chance to get acquainted with the best examples of European film industry perfectly demonstrates the cultural diversity of the EU Member States. I am happy that this year the Festival will be also held outside the capital. We plan to hold the screenings in Navoi and Nukus this autumn. Cinema, like other arts, does not have borders, and we a glad that our Film Festival is another invisible bridge connecting Europe and Uzbekistan", Ambassador Stiprais added.
