The Central Bank is given additional powers to ensure cybersecurity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the law “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with improving legislation in the field of cybersecurity.”

It was noted that the development of information and communication technologies necessitates strengthening measures to ensure information security and cybersecurity in the activities of credit and non-bank credit institutions.

In accordance with this Law, the Central Bank is given additional powers to identify security and cybersecurity threats from credit and payment institutions, payment system operators, currency exchanges and credit bureaus, as well as to take measures to prevent them.

Rules related to ensuring cybersecurity are included in the Code of Administrative Responsibility, as well as in the laws “On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “On Banks and Banking Activities”, “On Banking Secrecy”, “On the Protection of Information in an Automated Banking System”, “ On e-government”, “On payments and payment systems” and “On non-bank credit institutions and microfinance activities”.

The law defines non-compliance with legal requirements for ensuring information security and cybersecurity in banking information systems as gross violations.

In addition, the law includes such goals as ensuring information security and cybersecurity of banks’ information systems and resources, as well as protecting bank secrecy.

The senators noted that the adoption of this law helps to increase the level of information security in the activities of credit and non-bank credit institutions, as well as in the e-government system, and the prevention of crimes committed using information and communication technologies.
