Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Agency for Strategic Reforms (ASR) has proposed a series of initiatives to develop the night economy in Uzbekistan, according to the agency’s press service.
Two 24-hour gastronomic streets are already functioning in Tashkent—on Sultanali Mashkhadi and Taras Shevchenko Streets—and there are plans to establish eight more such streets in the future.
However, the ASR believes that for the full development of the night economy in the capital, it is necessary to go further and not limit efforts to transforming individual streets into gastronomic zones.
The agency also highlights the high demand for night transport services, which are currently being met solely by private taxis.
Additionally, there is significant potential for the 24-hour operation of cultural and sports institutions.
It is noted that the city also lacks a unified electronic platform with information about night establishments, which could be useful for both locals and tourists.
To address these issues, the ASR proposes the creation of a working group to focus on the development of the night economy and tourism, with the group’s work to begin on February 1, 2025.
Among the proposals are the organization of round-the-clock operation for entertainment venues on Fridays and Saturdays, with the removal of time restrictions for their operation, as well as the designation of tourist-attractive zones in Tashkent to organize night activities.
In addition, the ASR proposed to transition the city’s public transport to a 24-hour service and create an electronic platform called "Night Tashkent," which will contain information about night establishments and public transport routes.
The agency also proposed modernizing certain areas for the night economy, improving street lighting, and creating additional amenities for residents.
Furthermore, the ASR plans to develop a presidential decree "On Measures to Further Develop the Night Economy in Uzbekistan" and prepare a draft law to revise the licensing system in the night economy sector.
