TeliaSonera to continue to invest into Ucell
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3-4 September 2014, a delegation consisting of representatives of 12 major shareholders of the TeliaSonera Group and TeliaSonera top management visited Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the conditions of Ucell operations and the measures undertaken by Ucell in the area of sustainability, ethics and compliance with the Group’s policies and norms. The delegation arrived to Uzbekistan from Kazakhstan, where a similar visit was paid to Kcell JSC, a "sister" company of Ucell.

Overall, the visit went very well and shareholders were pleased with the productive meeting agenda and the open dialogue they had with the management of TeliaSonera, Kcell and Ucell, as well as with external stakeholders, the press service of Ucell said.

Within the frames of Uzbekistan visit, the participants, among which there were also representatives of the Swedish and Finnish States, highly appreciated the possibility to learn more about the market development opportunities, talk to Ucell employees, meet country authorities, business community and international institutions.

During the visit, the shareholders also had an opportunity of meeting with the Chairman of the Uzbekistan State Committee for Communication, Informatization and Telecommunication Technologies, H.E. Khurshid Mirzakhidov. At this meeting, many topics were discussed related to the regulatory framework for telecom operators, the government’s vision to develop Uzbekistan into a leading сountry in ICT, and future possibilities of cooperation with TeliaSonera.

The delegates, having focus on Sustainability, in particular highly appreciated Ucell’s initiatives aimed to ensure a sustainable and transparent business for the good of the country and the TeliaSonera Group. The company is striving to follow an internal anticorruption program and respect the TeliaSonera Code of business ethics and conduct to comply fully with the local legislation and the international laws that Uzbekistan has adopted. Peter Borsos, TeliaSonera SVP and Group Head of Corporate Communications commented extremely positive on the visit’s outputs: "The trip was a success when it comes to the shareholders’ view on how TeliaSonera and Ucell are working with sustainability issues in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. They really liked what they saw and feel that we are on the right track even if sustainability work can never be considered finished".

"As the visit of TeliaSonera’s owners was successful, Ucell more than ever is looking forward to develop further and continue the investments to network and innovative services", mentioned Tonu Grunberg, the new Ucell CEO that starts his assignment from September 15, 2014.
