TeliaSonera marks 5th anniversary of launch of 4G network
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Swedish-Finnish telecommunication holding TeliaSonera marks the fifth anniversary of world’s first launch of 4G network into commercial exploitation.

On 11 December, chief executive officer of Ucell Tõnu Grünberg held a meeting with heads of leading mass media companies in Tashkent.

During the meeting, Tõnu Grünberg said that TeliaSonera launched the world’s first 4G/LTE network in December 2009 in Stockholm (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway).

On 11 December, TeliaSonera marked the fifth anniversary of 4G network launch in Stockholm. On the same day, TeliaSonera presented the fifth generation network – 5G.

Tõnu Grünberg said at time of launch TeliaSonera had 300 base stations, supporting 4G/LTE technologies, in Stockholm and 200 base stations in Oslo. Currently, TeliaSonera provides services on 4G/LTE technologies in 12 countries, including in Uzbekistan.

According to GSA, 331 networks of 4G/LTE technology were put into commercial operation in 112 countries. Soon, the figure will grow up to 420 networks.

Mr. Grünberg underlined that mobile operator Ucell also launched 4G/LTE network into commercial operation on 28 November 2014. So, Ucell become 12th operator in the group of TeliaSonera, which introduced this technology.

He said that theoretically Internet speed at 4G network can reach up to 150 Mbps, while in some Scandinavian states – up to 300 Mbps.

Tõnu Grünberg noted that Ucell offers the most affordable prices for 4G network in Uzbekistan. At the same time, he said 4G network of Ucell covers the center of Tashkent city.

Ucell chief underlined that the operator plans to launch 4G networks in Samarkand, Bukhara and other cities of Uzbekistan in 2015.

Tõnu Grünberg said that natural relief and difficult geography makes difficult to construct base stations.

At the same time, he underlined that number of registered smartphones at Ucell network makes up only 15%.

Taking into account low penetration of smart devices, Ucell offers two packages of 4G network. First package offers 4G modems and 4G WI-FI routers and the second proposes internet packages to those subscribers, who have devices with 4G-support.
