He said that over 1,130 women work in various level in the government of Uzbekistan, including 48 MPs and Senators of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
Uzbek envoy said that significant number of women realize their creative potential at NGOs, which is foundation of civil society. Role of women in self-governing bodies is increasing as they have women councils, which address problems of women.
Murad Askarov underlined that one of priorities of state reforms and public development in Uzbekistan is protection of motherhood and childhood. He stated that maternity death decreased twice in 20 years and child death – three times.
The UN News Center said that the Uzbek envoy stated that Tashkent will host International Symposium “National model of protection of mothers and children in Uzbekistan: achievements and perspectives” on 25-26 November 2011.
