Tashkent to host conference on climate change
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi in Tashkent will host an international conference “Climate and culture. Our daily life in condition of climate change” on 21-22 January 2013.

The conference is part of wide-scale activities of Goethe-Institute in Tashkent and Almaty within the project “Glacier music”.

The name of the "Music of the glacier" is presented as a metaphor for the expression of complex natural phenomena in an easily understandable, accessible and emotionally exhilarating form for all.

Climate change accelerates the melting of glaciers, which are main fresh water sources. According to scientists, the most active processes of melting glaciers are occurring at the moment in the mountains of Central Asia. However, Central Europe is also facing a similar phenomenon - the melting of ice in the Alps. Melting glaciers has a big impact on the lives of people in the Central Asian region and the world, negatively impacting freshwater resources.

Goethe-Institute in Tashkent and Almaty is attracting attention of people and officials through organization of art campaigns and events.

The conference will consider impact of climate change to life of people, development of regional and international strategies on the issue, etc. It will also discuss climate change in Uzbekistan, glaciers melting in the country, climate change management and others.
