Tashkent to be safer for pedestrians and motorists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent city police and the khokimiyat of Tashkent city adopted an action plan to ensure road safety in Tashkent for 2019-2020. The document includes a large-scale set of measures for inventory of traffic signs and traffic lights, the constant study of the traffic situation to prevent traffic jams, the construction of additional parking spaces and much more.

By the end of this year, it is planned to conduct a study of the current situation with road signs, their condition and availability on all necessary sections. In addition, a set of measures is planned on inventory of existing traffic lights, establishing additional ones as needed, including at the request of the population.

The next step on road to improving road safety is installation of signs limiting the maximum speed to 50 km.h. (if there are three or more lanes in each direction) for all objects of population attraction. The list includes schools, pre-school educational institutions, institutes, lyceums / colleges, polyclinics, hospitals, markets, business centers, supermarkets, parks, theaters, stadiums, concert halls, mosques, churches, wedding venues, etc.

Along with an increase in security measures in the vicinity of these institutions, it is also planned to purchase additional installation of stationary and mobile speed measuring devices (radars) in the above-mentioned places and places with a high risk of accidents.

An important aspect of this program is to counteract the occurrence of traffic jams. This will be done through continuous monitoring of the traffic situation, including using small aircraft (drones). In addition to active countermeasures, traffic lights will be optimized, countdown timers will be set and additional paid parking places along streets and roads will be organized. For car owners, parking their vehicles in the wrong place provides for compulsory evacuation measures.

The territorial road safety program is designed to serve to reduce the number of accidents and emergency situations on the roads, the press service of the Tashkent city administration informs.
