Tashkent hosts seminar “Open electronic information resources for education”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An educational seminar “Open electronic information resources for education” was held in Tashkent on 26 February 2014. It was organized by the Republican information-library center of the State Committee of communication, information and telecommunication technologies of Uzbekistan and World Bank County Office in Uzbekistan.

Within the seminar, the video conference with the regional information-library and information-resource centers of the colleges was organized.

The event was aimed at familiarizing workers of information-library and information-resource centers with open information resources of the World Bank and other educational sources, as well as search technologies in these systems.

The presidential resolution from 23 February 2011 “On measures on further quality development of information-library and information-resource services on the base of information-communication technologies for 2011-2015” put a task on providing quality services to population with use of the ICT.

The participants of the seminar familiarized with open source electronic information resources to help to provide information to their clients with use of ICT and improve quality of education.

The seminar participants were briefed about Open access to electronic information resources movement, goal of which is to provide open access to resources to ensure development of science and humanity. Open access is to provide access to data and resources via internet to obtain, copy, disseminate, reprint and search information.

During the seminar, the participants considered advantages of open access, introduction of ICT in information-library and information-resource centers, access to scientific and cultural materials, etc.
