Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first Green Building Forum in Uzbekistan kicked off today, on 6 November, in Tashkent, gathering key figures from government agencies, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations. The forum’s goal is to discuss and shape the future of green construction in Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan, undergoing rapid modernization and urbanization, recognizes the need for sustainable development. Transitioning to green building practices will help the country reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, and make infrastructure more resilient, which is particularly important in the face of the region’s changing climate.
Green construction not only offers environmental benefits but also provides economic advantages. By adopting sustainable building practices, Uzbekistan can attract additional investments, especially in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and real estate. Green buildings open access to new financial instruments and encourage innovation, contributing to overall economic growth.
“Our goal is to support Uzbekistan in developing the green building sector that aligns with the vision of a modern, sustainable, and prosperous state,” emphasized Neil McKain, Regional Manager for IFC in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The forum marks the beginning of an annual tradition to promote green building and the decarbonization of Uzbekistan’s construction sector.
Organized by the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Uzbekistan and the IFC Green Building Development Project, funded by the Government of Hungary and the Investment Climate Advisory Services (FIAS), the forum aims to create a favorable environment for the growth of the green building ecosystem and the decarbonization of the construction sector.
The IFC’s global green building investments exceeding $1 billion in the 2024 fiscal year underscore the organization’s commitment to sustainable development.
