Tashkent hosts campaign “Reach out to the child with autism”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A charity event “Reach out to the child with autism” was held in Tashkent as part of observation of World Autism Awareness Day (2 April).

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that manifests itself during the first three years of life. The rate of autism in all regions of the world is high and it has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies.

Throughout its history, the United Nations family has promoted the rights and well-being of the disabled, including children with developmental disabilities. In 2008, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities entered into force, reaffirming the fundamental principle of universal human rights for all.

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the need to help improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from the disorder so they can lead full and meaningful lives.

Information-consulting service under the Republic Center for Adaptation of children in cooperation with Republican Public Children Fund Sen Yolg’iz Emassan (You are not alone) organized the charity event.

The event was attended by officials and public circles, representatives of charity organizations, experts from France, Russia, and Israel.

Chairperson of Trustee Council of Republic Center for Adaptation of children and Sen Yolg’iz Emassan Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva underlined importance of attraction of attention of the state bodies and public to autism problems.

It was noted that it is necessary to train specialists on autism both psychological-pedagogic and medical profiles, as well as develop methods and recommendations, and legislation.

Republic Center for Adaptation of children works with children with autism. Currently, the center takes care after 15 children with this diagnosis.

The center developed educational-correction programme directed at developing and adapting children to society. The center create parents club, which conduct various trainings.

At the event, it was noted that further improvement of approaches on revealing autism requires improvement of raising awareness among parents and healthcare system workers, affordability of diagnosis services, etc.
