Suspicion of Doping in Mullajonov May Have Stemmed from a Medical Procedure — Uzbekistan Boxing Federation Statement

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation has issued an official statement in response to circulating reports on social media concerning Lazizbek Mullajonov, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion.

“Let us remind you that Lazizbek Mullajonov is a member of Uzbekistan’s national team and the gold medalist of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Recently, unconfirmed reports have appeared on social media alleging that our boxer tested positive for banned substances and that his Olympic result in Paris could therefore be annulled,” the Federation said in its statement.

The organization stressed that the athlete has always strictly complied with anti-doping regulations and that all his previous tests had shown negative results. According to the Federation, Mullajonov underwent doping control on June 11 this year in full compliance with International Anti-Doping Rules. The International Testing Agency (ITA) later issued a notification regarding the detection of prohibited substances.

The Federation clarified that following the Olympic Games, on November 19, 2024, Mullajonov underwent a hair transplant procedure at a private clinic in Fergana. “During the four-stage operation and subsequent treatment, he was prescribed medications that, it is believed, may have contained certain banned substances,” the statement said.

The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation and Mullajonov himself have already submitted all the necessary documents to the ITA. The athlete is now awaiting a final decision.

“We emphasize that the reports circulating on social media about an alleged violation of anti-doping rules and the potential annulment of the Olympic gold medal do not correspond to reality. This incident will in no way affect the result achieved at the Olympic Games,” the Federation underscored.

In conclusion, the Federation called on the media to refrain from spreading unverified information and to seek official comments from the organization and Mullajonov himself.
