Suspect in Police Officer’s Murder Apprehended in Andijan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 July, a man suspected of killing a law enforcement officer was apprehended in the Andijan region, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The suspect was located around 6:30 a.m. at the "Sukolok" cemetery in the "Yuksalish" mahalla of Khodjaabad district, where he was hiding in a cornfield. Upon arrest, the suspect attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself in the abdomen. He was provided with emergency medical assistance and taken to a medical facility.
A criminal case has been opened under paragraph "g" of part 2 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (premeditated murder). An investigation is currently underway.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed gratitude to citizens who assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.
The incident occurred on 1 July in Andijan. During an attempt to detain him, the intoxicated suspect stabbed an inspector in the chest and fled the scene. The officer died from his injuries. The regional governor attended the officer’s funeral, and the Ministry offered its condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
