Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- World-known British singer Sting, leader of the Police band, is to perform at Alisher Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theater on 17 October.

The first concert of the legendary rock musician and actor taking place within Art Week Style.uz is of a charity nature, thus the funds will be used to implement projects of the “Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan” Foundation aimed at support of talented youth of Uzbekistan.

Sting is among those celebrities having successive musical career and he is one of the prominent activists of various social and public initiatives, especially those projects supporting youth.

The singer, who graduated from a school in 1970s, repeatedly remembers in his interviews such musical instruments as guitar, banjo, flutes which were mostly used in his favorite classes. “It’s vitally important our children to have access to the music: they must be given a chance to play in musical instruments,” shares Sting at Hay Festival, UK, in 2009.

Along with the support of children’s projects the musician regularly initiated charity concerts, receptions as well as actions, the funds from which are sent to needs of the famished and victims of natural disasters. Besides, he is the founder of the Rainforest Foundation aimed at protecting Brazilian tropical forests. For several years the musician has been assisting in various charity organizations, for instance, Nordoff Robbins, Walden Woods, Live Aid/Band Aid/Sport Aid, Elton John’s Aids Charity, Amnesty International, etc.
