Some 47.2 kg of narcotics seized in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers of the State Security Service have seized 47.2 kg of narcotics smuggled into Uzbekistan from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

In Uzun district of Surkhandarya region, three individuals were apprehended while attempting to smuggle 10.05 kg of opium and 10.029 kg of hashish from Tajikistan. They were intercepted by border troops.

During an operation in Muzrabad district, a 43-year-old Termez resident, previously convicted of drug trafficking, was arrested while receiving 1.953 kg of opium and 4.116 kg of hashish from Afghanistan. Shortly after, a 48-year-old Kazakh citizen was detained for planning to obtain these drugs in Termez.

In another incident in Termez district, a 47-year-old resident of Samarkand was caught trying to collect 922 g of opium and 4.203 kg of hashish, which he had purchased from Afghan drug dealers at US$2,300 per kilogram.

In Sariosiyo district, a 56-year-old resident of the Denau district was arrested with 4.08 kg of hashish smuggled from Tajikistan.

In Ferghana region, a 45-year-old resident of Kokand was detained after police found 975 g of opium in his Gentra vehicle and discovered an additional 789 g of opium and 5.239 kg of hashish during a search of his home.

Another arrest in Ferghana involved a 26-year-old resident attempting to collect 4.922 kg of hashish left by Kyrgyz drug couriers.

Criminal cases have been initiated for all incidents, and the suspects have been taken into custody.
