Skyrunning competition takes part in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 May, the Federation of Extreme and Mountain Tourism of Uzbekistan organized a skyrunning competition, where everyone could take part in the mountain race at a distance of 7.8 km to conquer the Kungurbuk peak.

Skyrunning is a sport, high-speed ascent, high-altitude running, as well as competitions, which are held according to the rules of the International Skyrunning Federation. Although skyrunning has the word “running” in its root, it’s not a run. Rather, it is defined as a method of movement in mountainous areas at an altitude of more than two thousand meters above sea level by relief.

The Kungurbuk peak is the highest point, one of the spurs of the Chatkal ridge, part of the Western Tien Shan system, height of which is 1980 m above sea level.

The path to the summit is a colorful spectacle - a lot of white limestone rock heaps resembling the ruins of an old fortress. Endless trails leading to the summit run through the beautiful hawthorn gardens, walnut groves and apple orchards.

The competition was attended by 225 people, both trained athletes and amateurs, as well as representatives of foreign countries.
