Shavkat Mirziyoyev Nominated for the Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been nominated for the international Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize, according to TASS, citing a letter from Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Russian Peace Foundation.
Other nominees include President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.
In his letter to the award organizers, Slutsky highlighted the historic agreement signed in late March this year in Khujand, Tajikistan, where the leaders of the three Central Asian countries formalized the tripoint border junction. He called the event a milestone that significantly contributed to strengthening cooperation among the nations and promoting a multipolar world.
The Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize was established last year to recognize politicians and organizations for their outstanding contributions to conflict prevention and the promotion of peace. The first recipient of the award was the African Union.
The award ceremony is traditionally held in Moscow on September 9 — the birthday of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.
