The law sets main principles, bases, terms of holding under arrest, and determines rights of detainees and prisoners at jail, as well as guarantees.

The document also set order of communication of detainee with lawyers, legal representatives, Human Rights Commissioner of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (Ombudsman) at jails and others.

According to Senators, the law will help to further liberalize criminal, criminal-procedural legislation and judicial-legal system.

Senators also approved a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan in connection with adoption of the law “On holding under arrest at investigation of criminal case”.

The document envisages to introduce changes to Criminal-Procedural Code of Uzbekistan, which set responsibilities of police officers to inform prosecutor about arrest and other amendments directed at protection of detainees’ rights.
