Senate Plenary session discusses the telecommunications law

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  In recent years, telecommunications networks have rapidly developed under the influence of technological advancements and changing consumer demands. In this context, comprehensive measures are being implemented in Uzbekistan to widely introduce modern information and communication technologies across various sectors.

Notably, the development of telecommunications systems in remote areas has improved access to telecommunications networks and led to positive outcomes in reducing internet service costs.

To enhance efforts in this area, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis held a plenary session to review the Law "On Telecommunications."

The session included a detailed analysis of the experiences and practices of countries with developed telecommunications markets. The law clearly defines the tasks of the regulator overseeing the telecommunications market and the government bodies responsible for developing this market.

The law grants the regulatory authority powers to carry out licensing and permitting procedures for telecommunications activities, prioritize the use of telecommunications infrastructures, and restore and develop these services during natural disasters, technological emergencies, or states of emergency. It also aims to ensure a fair and competitive environment for operators and providers.

Additionally, all legal and natural persons are required to comply with the regulations established by the regulatory authority within its mandate.

By facilitating business operations, the adoption of this law will create a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the telecommunications sector, which is a crucial part of the government’s strategic program for the digitalization of the economy and society.

The law has been approved by the senators.
