Senate of Uzbekistan Discusses Interparliamentary and Economic Cooperation with Canada

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Sodiq Safoev, held a videoconference with a delegation led by Ziad Aboultaif, Chair of the “Canada–Uzbekistan” Friendship Group in the Canadian House of Commons.

During the meeting, participants discussed the development of interparliamentary ties, economic and investment cooperation, as well as potential collaboration in education and tourism between the two countries.

Special attention was given to the need for regular mutual visits and annual meetings of the relevant committees of the legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and Canada to further deepen interparliamentary dialogue.

It was noted that bilateral contacts and visits have significantly increased in recent years. At the same time, the discussion emphasized the need to expand trade turnover, develop direct cooperation between regions and business communities, and effectively leverage the investment potential of both countries.

Prospects for cooperation in the field of education were also addressed. The parties highlighted the importance of creating joint programs and branches of leading Canadian universities, as well as developing academic and scientific exchanges between educational institutions of both countries.

Additionally, the meeting focused on promoting interregional cooperation, including establishing sister-city relationships between cities and regions, exchanging experience, and implementing joint projects.
