It was noted that activities of Ombudsperson was directed at implementing measures on strengthening of parliamentary and public control over adherence to human rights and freedoms by the state bodies and officials, improve legislation, mechanism on protection of human rights and freedoms.

The special attention was paid to raising legal knowledge of population, strengthen cooperation with state bodies, law enforcement bodies and judicial structures, civil society institutes in protection of human rights and freedoms.

In the reporting period, Ombudsperson carried out legal expertise of over 20 draft laws to ensure their adherence to national laws and international standards in human rights protection. Ombudsperson also carried out monitoring on adherence to legislation directed at developing family businesses in the regions.

Ombudsperson also started to accept applications from citizens via email. Ombudsperson and its staff received 1,391 citizens in 2012.

At the meeting, Senators shared their proposals and recommendations on further improving activities of Ombudsperson.
